Governor's attack on rival invites scrutiny of his own record
The Columbus Dispatch
October 20, 2010
At a campaign stop on Monday, Gov. Ted Strickland opined: "What Ohio needs is stable, mature leadership. In this troubled time when we are in a fragile economy, what we don't need is someone who is a little reckless, maybe more than a little reckless."
Truer words were never spoken, and rarely does a candidate pronounce an indictment against himself as Strickland did here.

Kasich endorsed over Strickland
October 17, 2010
As the U.S. House Budget chair, former Rep. John Kasich played a lead part in helping the federal government balance its budget for the first time in 30 years.
Faced with an $8 billion state budget deficit, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland did very little.
That epitomizes the difference between Ohio's two gubernatorial candidates in the Nov. 2 General Election. Therein lies the reason voters should choose Kasich.

Kasich is right man at right time in governor's race
October 17, 2010
When voters evaluate the key candidates for Ohio governor, they will have two good candidates in incumbent Democrat Gov. Ted Strickland and Republican John Kasich, a former congressman.
Strickland is well known to voters in the Scioto Valley as he has been a U.S. representative in the area for years and has, as many leaders have, had his share of ups and downs.
Kasich is a strong leader who challenges the status quo but also knows how to bring both sides of the chamber together to get things done. His budget savviness will suit the state well.
Ohio needs bold governor fighting for change

Ohio needs bold governor fighting for change

There's no doubt Kasich will bring a more aggressive approach to changing Ohio in any way that will reduce the size of government, lower or maintain taxes and improve the business climate. He'll just need to make sure he watches out for local schools and governments to avoid even more trickle-down taxes.
When an employer hires someone to fill a position, especially at the executive level, they often consider the skills and wisdom needed at that place in time.
Given Ohio's many and urgent needs, voters would be wise to hire Kasich.

OUR VIEW: Kasich best choice to lead Ohio forward as its next governor
October 17, 2010
Republican John Kasich keeps asking the same question during his campaign for governor. “Are Ohioans better off now than they were four years ago?” Even Kasich’s opponent, incumbent Gov. Ted Strickland, answers with a “no.”
That answer speaks volumes to the mess Ohio is in today and what little the Democratic governor has done to get us out of it.
State Endorsement: Kasich promises bold, confident leadership for state that needs it

State Endorsement: Kasich promises bold, confident leadership for state that needs it
October 17, 2010
The next four years will be critical for the future of the state of Ohio.
Bold, decisive leadership will be vital not only in setting the course for recovery (the obvious No. 1 priority in a state battered by recession and the loss of 400,000 jobs) but in laying the groundwork for a healthier economic base in the long run.
We believe John Kasich, the Republican nominee for governor, possesses the vision and confidence to tackle this two-fold challenge more successfully than Gov. Ted Strickland.

Elect Kasich Ohio Governor
October 14, 2010
Ohio is in a deep economic rut. Unemployment stands at 10.1 percent, higher than the national average. The state's budget, expected to be at least $8 billion out of balance during the next two-year cycle, is a disaster. Far from improving, many public schools are struggling to remain afloat. Scandal continues to plague state government.
What is Gov. Ted Strickland doing to address those problems and others facing Ohioans? Little or nothing, as far as most Buckeye State residents can tell. We suspect the vast majority of voters would be hard-pressed to name even one meaningful Strickland initiative to address their concerns.
It is time for a real change. Ohioans should elect John Kasich as their next governor, replacing Strickland.
PRESS RELEASE: Cuyahoga Mayors and Elected Officials Endorse John Kasich and Mary Taylor
Cleveland– For the first time in more than a decade, today more than 100 mayors and other local elected officials in Cuyahoga County called for a change in state leadership and endorsed John Kasich and Mary Taylor in their campaign for governor and lieutenant governor. The last such mass endorsement was 1998. A copy of the list of endorsements is attached.
In a county politically dominated by Democrats but stung by a two-year-long federal investigation of public corruption, the Kasich endorsement represents a courageous effort to reestablish public confidence in government. In the past, public officials were reluctant to publicly support Republican candidates lest they provoke the wrath of the Democrat political machine to work against them.
Columbus Dispatch Editorial: For governor
Columbus Dispatch
Kasich is candidate most likely to set Ohio on a better course
October 10, 2010
As Ohio copes with economic stagnation, unemployment of 10.1 percent and a looming $8 billion shortfall in the state budget, it needs a resolute leader in the governor's office. While Gov. Ted Strickland is admirable in many respects, leadership and executive ability have not been his strong suits. Therefore, The Dispatch endorses Republican John Kasich for governor.
Ohio's budget is facing a crisis unlike any in memory. A deficit of such magnitude speaks to the failure of Strickland even to begin the process of putting Ohio on a sustainable fiscal basis. He should have begun two years ago to make the fundamental structural changes needed to bring the state's spending into line with its income. Instead, he relied on federal handouts and other one-time money to put off the day of reckoning. Now that day is at hand, and he still has given voters no clue as to how he would bridge the budget gap.

Governor's race
September 28, 2010
Four years ago, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland pledged to turn around the state's economy.
He might have pulled if off had it not been for the national recession, which, while technically over, still seems stalled over Ohio.
As a result, this election more than anything may be about economic recovery and jobs, and figuring out who can get us there from here.
Even though the latest poll shows Strickland catching up with Republican challenger John Kasich after trailing by a double-digit margin in recent weeks, we believe it's time for a change of direction. We endorse Kasich for governor.

A no brainer
The Daily Advocate
August 31, 2010
What’s the future of Ohio?
I did some research over the weekend and what I discovered is sobering at best, deadly serious at worst.
Since 2000 our population has increased 1.7 percent while the national increase was 9.1 percent. We rank 45th in overall growth.
That means a decrease in the number of representatives in the House and a smaller piece of the federal financial pie. We will likely see both when the 2010 census has been completed.
Finance Deadline
August 30, 2010
By now, you’ve seen the difference between the positive, issue-based campaign that Mary Taylor and I are waging and the never ending stream of negative ads my opponent is running.
Tomorrow is a critical finance deadline and our campaign success depends on contributions from regular Ohioans like you, not the special interest dollars that are flooding into Ted Strickland’s coffers.
I know our message is getting through and our ideas are the ones which will win on Election Day.

Kasich Launches Policy Initiative Aimed At Streamlining Regulations
WCMH4
August 25, 2010
Republican gubernatorial candidate John Kasich rolled out a new policy initiative Wednesday at the Ohio Republican Party Headquarters. He was joined by his running mate, Mary Taylor, Jim Zehringer, a member of the house who has been involved in small business and agriculture most of his life, and Senator Keith Faber, a member of the bipartisan committee on regulatory reform.
Kasich said he wants to see the state’s regulatory process streamlined, and that an overabundance of regulations are hurting Ohio.
“We know that regulations are capable of killing people’s jobs,“ Kasich said. “There isn’t any question about it.“
