Below are several excerpts from the Record-Courier’s endorsement of Gov. John Kasich for re-election:
John Kasich has delivered on the campaign promises he made four years ago. He has promoted economic growth for Ohio while focusing on lowering the state’s income tax as a means of spurring development.
When he took office in 2011, Ohio was still reeling from the effects of the Great Recession. Joblessness was at about 10 percent and the new administration inherited an $8 billion budget gap. Raising taxes, he believed, wasn’t the answer for bringing the state out of the financial ditch.
Four years ago, when we endorsed John Kasich for governor, we noted his “refreshing sense of confidence,” willingness to pursue “a bolder, more innovative approach” to government and “‘can-do’ attitude that could go a long way toward moving Ohio off dead center.” We believe, overall, that he has fulfilled those expectations and deserves a second term. We endorse John Kasich for re-election.
